This series of blogs should introduce our products to you from the perspective of those closest to them, their developers. Statistics and features are available on the product pages of our website but who is actually behind them? Today it is my pleasure to introduce Dominik to you!
What does your typical work day look like?
Since I live in the beautiful Burgenland, I have to get up pretty early and take the train to Vienna. When I arrive in the office, I grab a cup of coffee and check my mails and our company chat. Then, I start writing code and working on our Docker images. In between I like to play (awfully bad) darts, have a laugh with my colleagues and organize lunch.
What are you currently working and what is your specific role?
I am currently working on our new product, ApplicationInsights, implementing Java services that analyze the design of IBM Domino applications. But since we are in the final stage of development, I am also assisting our DevOps guys in Docker related tasks.
Can you provide a concrete problem this product resolves?
Suppose you want to find applications that provide a lot of value and can be migrated without much effort. ApplicationInsights can help you to achieve this goal by listing the most used applications that have a low complexity.
Which aspect of ApplicationInsights is your personal highlight?
As a software developer I am obsessed with organized code that is easy to maintain. Therefore, I really like ApplicationInsights as it evaluates the similarity of the application’s source code. This allows Domino developers to extract common behavior into templates and improves maintainability as well as the overall application design.
Can you describe what ApplicationInsights does as an analogy to the hotel industry?
After the check-in, the lovely reception staff usually show you a simplified map of the city and suggest cool sights, bars and restaurants. This way, you can immediately head off and enjoy your time. This is similar to ApplicationInsights which highlights IBM Domino applications that will interest you most.
What optimizes your day?
Reading a great book on my train ride to work, hot coffee, cool music and having a great time with my colleagues.
