panagenda Product Manager Interview – Franz Walder
This series of blogs should introduce our products to you from the perspective of those closest to them, their developers, product managers and consultants. Statistics and features are available on the product pages of our website but who is actually behind them? Today it is my pleasure to introduce Franz to you!
What does your typical work day look like?
I don’t know what it looks like, but sometimes it feels like juggling frogs. There are a lot of meetings and calls on the organizational side to make sure everybody has the information they need. Requirements engineering and helping with prioritization on the technical side to enable developers to work without too much distraction. Here and there I also get to play a bit with technical stuff when it comes to our data warehouse and app platform architecture.
What does your specific role with ConnectionsExpert entail?
I am product manager for the AnalyticsSolutions portfolio here at panagenda. A big part of my job is interfacing between all the people and departments who help turn a wild idea into a great product.
On what idea is ConnectionsExpert based?
ConnectionsExpert (CE) was initially envisioned as a response to the many challenges that our amazing IBM Connections consultants have faced over the years. It started with an operational approach to understand if and in what quality the Connections environment was available. It quickly extended to questions around how to ease user adoption and support adoption campaigns.
Who benefits from using CE?
A quite diverse array of roles and departments benefit from the information CE provides. We try to give insights into the workings of IBM Connections from several different angles. Some are for example relevant for management, others are aimed more at technical audiences.
How do they benefit?
One of the most valuable things we do is show what is being used and how it’s used. That information is important for IT management to have another angle on judging the return of investment for the IBM Connections infrastructure. Working on improving this rate, Social Adoption consultants use it as the foundation for their adoption campaigns and a way to measure success. IT admins will find details on operations and quality of service to make sure availability and performance are up to the high standards so many of our customers have.
Which aspect of ConnectionsExpert is your personal highlight?
I think my personal highlight would be our approach to put so many of the things we collect in historical context. Since we have our own data warehouse, we can keep a history of whatever we think is valuable, even if Connections only has this information as a number for the current point in time. Seeing how things evolve over time and how they correlate with each other, adds tremendous value in many business cases, especially those related to Social Adoption topics.
What can we expect from ConnectionsExpert in future?
We are currently working on bringing the analytics data we gather from IBM Connections back to Community owners inside Connections. That and our approach to integrating a self-service Business Intelligence platform into our solution will make it both easier and faster to get the most out of our solution for an even broader audience inside the customer organization.
