This series of blogs should introduce our products to you from the perspective of those closest to them, their developers, product managers and consultants. Statistics and features are available on the product pages of our website but who is actually behind them? You may recognize Sunil from his #panagendaPride interview in February. Today’s focus though will be his impression as a developer of panagenda’s GreenLight.
What does your typical work day look like?
A typical day starts with going through the support database to check on customer queries before checking the development task list. During the day there are a couple of short and long discussions with the product manager and a whole lot of coding.
What does your role at panagenda require you to do?
I am currently engaged with the development of, and the support for GL (GreenLight) as well as research for our upcoming products.
On what idea is GreenLight based?
GreenLight is a network monitoring solution. It was designed keeping administrators in mind. A network administrator uses Greenlight not only to keep a watch over their networks but also to keep snapshots of the network health as historical data for reference.
How do administrators benefit?
Greenlight not only provides status (working/not working) of a server but can also trigger alarm in case there is a problem. The conditions for alerting can be configured individually for each server or for a set of servers. An administrator can custom create such conditions as per his requirement.
Does GL offer something that similar products don’t?
The one-stop solution that GreenLight provides with live monitoring, end-to-end simulations, alerting, and charting of historical data for different server landscapes is unique in itself. As is the agentless approach, meaning that nothing needs to be installed on the servers to be monitored.
Can you describe what GreenLight does as an analogy to the hotel industry?
If GL was a plumber it would be able to report where the throughput is slow and where the blockages are. In many cases it will determine the cause but in all the cases it will alert the landlord that something is amiss.
What can we expect from GreenLight in future?
GreenLight has evolved over the years and will keep evolving over next years. Not only will we be continuously striving to work with our customers and partners to support them by providing new features but also will be continuously working to update the technology involved in development.
