This series of blogs should introduce our products to you from the perspective of those closest to them, their developers, product managers and consultants. Statistics and features are available on the product pages of our website but who is actually behind them? Today it is my pleasure to introduce Miraldo to you!
What does your role require you to do?
I’m Lead Frontend Developer for multiple products that we offer including iDNA.
What does your typical day at work look like?
I arrive at the office and make myself a coffee. Having settled in, I check JIRA for new tickets (and pray that there are no bugs). When everything is clear and depending on what my colleagues are working on and where they may need assistance, I improve existing features or work on new features for iDNA!
Who benefits from using iDNA?
Mostly enterprises with large IBM Domino environments including but not limited to banks, insurance companies and industrial manufacturers.
How do they benefit?
They learn a lot about their Lotus Notes Domino infrastructure including usage of servers and databases as well as configurations (and misconfigurations) of their servers and clients. Another great possibility is to determine the volume of email traffic within an organization, specific departments or across regional office in order to optimize server load or even to prevent burnout if excessive emails are being sent out of office hours.
What challenges had to be overcome during development?
The same challenge as with every browser based frontend: To get the UI to look and behave the same on every browser (including IE8). We also needed to develop a Framework that allows the reports to be rendered online and offline, and get them to look good when printed or converted to PDF.
Which aspect of this product is your personal highlight?
As a developer I’m very proud of the whole team and the extensive effort they put into the design and implementation of iDNA. “I love it when the plan comes together” to quote Hannibal from The A-Team. Personally, I find the reports and the framework behind it the coolest.
What can we expect from iDNA in the future?
We are constantly working on improving the solution on a few different levels. One of the many things we are working on is to offer certain customization options for parts of the report. Another is to add an option for customers that allows accessing the raw data in our data warehouse directly in order for them to create their own reports.
What optimizes your day?
I need lots of coffee and a quiet office to stay focused. Lots of small five minute breaks to prevent eyestrain and back pain are also welcome. A departmental darts league with Dominik and Emir caters nicely for that. I’m looking for more competitors though because they’re getting sick of losing to me 😉
