This series of blogs should introduce our products to you from the perspective of those closest to them, their developers, product managers and consultants. As a consultant, there are no typical working days. No routine means no boredom while mixing it up between remote and on-site appointments, testing and analysis of updates, new technologies and much more. Our Connections projects can be a one-time load test requiring just a few hours of my time but also include installation or migration workshops of several weeks.

What does your role require you to do?

I’m part of the consulting team and mainly work with IBM Connections. This includes administration, installation, environment optimization, security aspects of operations, and customer support. Not to forget supporting our development team and the product managers as one of my tasks.

Which panagenda products support you in your work?

Most of all I use ConnectionsExpert and GreenLight. I was able to to provide some experience in the development of ConnectionsExpert.

What challenges had to be overcome during its development?

A major challenge in developing ConnectionsExpert was the undocumented databases, under-documented APIs and the modular development of IBM Connections. The different development teams use various database schemas, their own field names and keys.

Who benefits from using this product?

Any IBM Connections user can benefit directly or indirectly from ConnectionsExpert.

How do they benefit?

In the “Monitoring” section, administrators can see at a glance if there are problems with the Connections environment. This allows them to carry out administrative tasks at an early stage and often proactively. As a result, users will not notice a broken-down search index or a crowded file library. As such, they benefit indirectly from this function.

Direct benefits are given to community managers who have their content, applications, members and followers presented to them in a clear way and as a result can draw their own conclusions.

Which aspect of ConnectionsExpert is your personal highlight?

The Monitoring Dashboard is one of my personal highlights as it provides me with a general overview of the state of the Connections environment. By integrating the 7 and 30 day average response times, as well as search-, application- and database-status, I can immediately see when problems present themselves.

What can we expect from this product in the future?

We are eagerly awaiting the next modules from IBM Connections Pink to analyze and integrate them with ConnectionsExpert.

Can you describe what ConnectionsExpert does as an analogy to the hotel industry?

It behaves like a good concierge by preparing data to the environment in the background and providing them upon request. He knows the best places (data) and how they are best presented to the respective user.

Is there anything else you want to tell us about ConnectionsExpert?

ConnectionsExpert Basic offers a free license (where we only need the Connections URL and the number of users for the license) and can already display the basic monitoring and community overviews. For detailed analysis, however, you need a full version.

Now, you help customers optimize their IBM Connections landscape but what optimizes your day?

My family, espresso and the solution of a technical challenge optimize my day. On holidays and weekends just family and coffee will do the trick.
