Last year’s IBM Think was a blast and this year’s conference was just as good. It started strong with Ashton Kutcher’s presentation on technology, but the finish was stronger. We announced that panagenda’s MarvelClient Upgrade will be available to download for free. You can now upgrade your IBM Notes environment to version 10 in the simplest, cheapest and fastest way possible!
Warming up with the IBM Community Day
The Community Day started with focus on some famous people. The IBM Champion family is proud to have two new ICS Lifetime Champions. Congratulations to Daniel Nashed and Richard Moy for joining the likes of Theo Heselmans, Gabrielle Davis and Julian Robichaux. Well deserved. Enjoy the official recognition of your hard-earned fame!
All Things Notes and Domino
Wednesday was the busiest day for IBM Notes and Domino fans. Florian Vogler (CEO, Collaboration Enthusiast, Analytics Aficionado & IBM Champion), Sonja Wessels (IT Specialist, Domino Nerd & IBM Champion) and Remco Angioni (Specialist for Watson, Connections, DB2 and Domino & IBM Champion) took part in a roundtable discussion. They discussed recent developments regarding Notes and Domino by HCL and IBM.
Henning Kunz and Stefan Thier (from the panagenda client Dachser) presented, “Dachser and IBM Domino: Challenges with Notes at a Global Logistics Provider”.
Dachser is a leading logistics provider that operates globally, drawing on years of experience, state-of-the-art information technologies and daily cooperation between large numbers of people from a variety of countries and cultures. Join us to learn more about how Dachser uses a highly integrated and mostly automated IBM Notes and Domino infrastructure to support our day-to-day core business operations. We will also talk about the evolution of the system over time, the challenges of the past years and how we plan to leverage the long-awaited functionalities to be delivered in the new releases.
Christoph Adler and Ben Menesi (Ytria) presented, “15 New Domino Admin Features Sure to Spark a Lasting Love Affair with Domino 10 and 11”.
Domino 10 shipped jam-packed with new features that will make administrators’ lives a breeze. In this talk, we’ll share everything we know and love about our 15 new favorites—from the long-awaited NSF size limit boost, to brand-new gems like Domino General Query Facility (DGQF), deletion logging and more. You’ll learn how to get the most out of all of them, proven through practical customer examples. You’ll walk away from this fast-paced, in-depth session with a solid understanding of the new way to administer Domino 10, as well as a hands-on guide to properly put these great features to use!
During Christoph Adler & Jared Roberts’ (ISW) session, “Supercharged Notes 10 Upgrade: Turning the Worst Notes Deployments into the Best”, attendees heard for the first time they will soon be able to update to Notes 10.0.1 using MarvelClient.
Make sure you stay up to date by pre-registering HERE.
We want you to upgrade to version 10, and our friends at panagenda are really helping you do that with the inclusion of MarvelClient Essentials in the Notes Client. A big step forward.
— Andrew Manby, IBM
We take the worst Notes client deployments (simulated multi-user, copied data directories, outdated templates, misconfigured workspace folders, dramatically grown data directories, etc.) and we clean, upgrade and deliver them with no disruption! But no matter how much you try, you will always find Notes clients out there that do not behave or participate. This session will share the best and latest client management and upgrade knowledge, combined with years of experience in Notes client upgrades, to yield the fastest and most stable IBM Notes V10 client deployment ever. Do you think it’s not possible to get IBM Notes V10 installed/upgraded in under three minutes? Join us and we’ll give you the recipe for a successful deployment.
IBM Connections News – CR5 is planned for June
“Bring Connections, Sametime, Domino closer together” was mentioned at the IBM ICS Community day. It will be exciting to see what this will mean for Connections! No details were given yet as the deal between HCL & IBM needs to be finalized first.
Make sure not to miss the Connections Jam Sessions in April and May in the Benelux, Germany (Frankfurt April 5th) and other locations.
Just before the conference, IBM Connections version CR4 was released. There were a few interesting, new features. Wiki pages can now be locked. Files from a community can be shared outside the community using a link. CR5 should be available during the summer. The most exciting feature we heard about so far, is that it will include the option to change ownership of a file! Find some more technical facts here.
If you’re interested in driving Social Adoption, look at Femke Goedhart’s session slides, “Taking a Social Analytics Look into Your Collaboration Landscape to Drive Adoption”.
How do you get users to adapt to new ways of working, and which tools do you use for that? What do platforms like mail, instant messaging and social enterprise mean in our drive to get users to be more connected, and how can analytics help drive a “successful adoption”? This session shares analytical data and change management concepts to show how you can get users to leverage available collaboration tooling to more effect. See how to combine information from platforms like IBM Domino, Microsoft Exchange, IBM Connections and Skype for Business and even file storage to get a better grip on what’s happening and how to focus—all to stimulate your users to become a better connected, more innovative and more knowledgeable workforce.
The last goodbye?
For some of the ICS Community members, it felt like the final goodbye to the Lotusphere heritage. Although the community remains strong, it might be time to move in a new direction.
Last, but not least, we’d like to quote Maria Nordin from ISW: “It was cold outside but we all had a warm feeling in our hearts”. The next European events, like engage or Social Connections, are already out there.
So, no matter what will happen, the ICS community will meet again!
